Media Fact Book 2008 – advertising spending in Romania

Initiative (media agency, part of Lowe) launched last week their Media Fact Book for 2008. This week I already had two meetings with foreign online media investors and I see that people are interested about the Romanian advertising market and spending in 2008.

Key stats – Initiative Media Fact Book:

Advertising growth rate  ~+22% from 2007 (~593 mil euro in 2008 vs. ~485,4 mil in 2007):

  • 2008: ~593 mil euro
  • Internet: ~15 mil euro: 2%
  • TV: ~383 mil euro: 65%
  • Print: ~87 mil euro: 17%
  • OOH & Indoor: ~70 mil euro: 10%
  • Radio: ~38 mil euro: 6%

  • Internet + cinema: 9,4 mil euro

IAB estimates that 10% of overall ad spend by the year 2010 will be online (only in EU) since Europe struggles to reduce the GAP with the United States. This is probably why all the guys I met in the last 6 months told me that this is the right time to invest in online projects in Romania 🙂
