University holidays and Internet traffic changes in Romania

Today I was surfing trafic.ro to see the first trends of the holiday as the school year is close to an end.
August is by definition the month with the lowest traffic since everyone is enjoying their holidays but the descending trend starts this month – I’m tracking this behavior since 2002 and I can tell you that only one thing changed and made me write this post.

June is the best month for all the pupils and highschool/university students in Romania: summer holiday with no homeworks and high temperatures take over Romania. Of course, it’s not all fun and games since there are about 500.000 teenagers and students involved in several exams (baccalaureate, faculty admission, graduation, etc).

2008 has something unique to offer: because of Bologna process (European educational reform), students no longer study 4 years (only 3 now) and since this reform started 3 years ago, these days we have two generations of university graduates and of course this has to reflect in Internet traffic.

If we have 2 times more graduates this year, I wondered what were the plans after the graduation ceremony. The answer: to look for a job. This is probably why in Traffic.ro’s Top 10 only eJobs.ro has 25.000+ visitors while all other website already feel the summer breeze. This type of social behavior comes as a surprise for me – I thought they would wait until September to enjoy their last holiday and only after that to look for the right job. Well, it seems that this generation moves faster ๐Ÿ™‚
