Romanian Online Market updates – weekly picks

Ringier: launching online division managed by Marius Hagger (online background), Andrei Frunza (development) and Laurentiu Ciornei (editorial), 100 people, open source platform, e-commerce, editorial + classifieds, new women website coming soon, different sales model, details here;

Realitatea Catavencu: launching of, 600.000 eur investment, large editorial team; cutting down salaries in the group (-10% up to -50%);

Publimedia: closing down local newspapers but keeps online versions;

ARBOinteractive: launching their video advertising service – the service was running for quite some time but now it has a commercial packaging. Interesting to see the growth of video advertising in Romania;

Google in Romania: Amalia Cretu speaking about online budgets vs. traditional media. I have to disagree with the title – there is a fight over budgets, online draws money form print and OOH and I know some people thinking to split parts of their TV spendure in order to go online. Few people know that clients often cut their online budgets in order to stay on TV (due to very good prices). Cannibalization is happening now, more than ever;

Adevarul Holding: preparing online division, looking for aquisitions (websites/teams);

Burda: Michael Schroeder no longer manager of Burda Romania. Operations now handeled by Sandi Apostoiu;

GroupM: global advertising market -5.5% in 2009.

Mastercard is looking for an online agency;

Telecom: Saudi Oger sells ZAPP Romania to Cosmote for 61 mil EUR. My feeling is that Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile are coming soon;
