New challenges in INTACT Media Group

First time I joined the business in INTACT Media Group was on the 1st of May 2008. In July 2008, I already started setting up a new sales house and on the 1st of October INTACT Interactive held its first meeting. In November 2008 we had the first website in the portfolio and the first campaign. In February, together with Ocean Strategy and Gazeta Online, we started to shape a group strategy for the next two years.

Right now, INTACT Interactive is one of the top players in online advertising in Romania (representing over 130 websites), thanks to Magdalena Zander, Gabriel Boaca, Maria Cocris, Sorin Cristea and a great team of Internet enthusiasts working 24/7. On monday, Sorin Danilescu will join the team and will replace me as General Manager of Intact Interactive.

My new position in INTACT Media Group is Senior Advisor concerned with new media. In the next months I’ll focus on new business opportunities while supporting the companies and online products of the media group.

There are new challenges ahead and I’m happy to see more and more people involved and supporting new media cutting edge technologies in the group.

Harvard – looking for the right people

… on the right websites :)

I’m happy to announce that Harvard has a special event targeting Romanian students („What is Havard looking for?”, 7th of may, 14h00, Aula Magna - Facultatea de Drept, University of Bucharest) and that in their media mix (TV/radio/print) there is also included our student network: www.e-scoala.ro, www.onlinestudent.ro, www.job-studenti.ro, www.jobfest.ro and www.studentcv.ro .

on the fast lane

MEDIA: I’m reading blog posts about BRAT, Gfk and football.

I try to see the numbers one year from now.

IAA: Felix Tataru is the new vice president at IAA Worldwide. This is also a great news for our Romanian IAA YP chapter since we now have the support of the vice president :)Dan Petre has daily posts from the IAA Summit in Washington.

CAREERS: JOBfest begins this Friday (interactive jobs from navidoo, CTM, Magnetique). Maybe you’ll find the perfect career opportunity ;)

ME: thinking, working and building around the clock (we experiment a new media mix with TV, BTL and online but that’s another story).

I try so see the numbers 10 years from now.

While I was gone – interactive moves

- 1 giant global player prepares to enter Romanian market (you can start searching for clues here) – both btl and online components;

- 1 giant European player entered Romania – very discreet, represented by a local company, aiming very high;

- 1 giant investment fund is ready to invest few millions in Romanian online projects – Tiger’s investment was just peanuts money compared to this; this move marks the first fund to come in Romania and focus only on Internet;

- 1 new product from Google – Google sites;

- 1 new record from Boom – their adserver pumped over 30.000.000 banners on Valentine’s Day;

- 1 new interactive agency: Zenith Media, part of Publicis, launched Zed Digital in Romania (clients like Bayer, Baxi Group, BRD-GSG, Bunge, Caroli, Carrefour, Electrolux, Interstar, ING, L’Oreal, Nestle, Parmalat, Policolor, Reckitt Benkiser, Toyota Romania, Ursus Breweries, Vincon Vrancea):

- 1 new study – Gemius + Evensys – results here [Save Target As...]; made me think of some… questions;

- 1 offer – 10 mil. EUR for Vodanet (NCH);

- 1 demanding sales target for AdEvolution and Realitatea Catavencu – 4,5 to 5 mil EUR from online advertising in 2008 (AdPlayers);

- 1 new fun jobbing website from Alin looking for gurus, masters and signers;

- 1 interactive event – Digital Marketing Forum – couldn’t make it but Alex did;

- 1 step closer to the moon ;)

Regarding the lifestyle show on Euforia TV

I was invited to speak about relationships@work and since I was amazed to find out today how many people watched this late show last night on Euforia TV, I have to say a few things.
Although the show was a friendly chat, I tried to promote the fact that a relationship at the workplace can really affect both the company and your career and you should think twice for at least 2 weeks before asking out a colleague (I know that love has nothing to do with human resources management but has something to do with your energy/good spirit/productivity/etc) :)
The other thing you should know is that the examples I gave in the show were really based on real-life stories (a Romanian company really lost a $3 million team because of a inappropriate relationship).

MA degree in Online Marketing

A very good news comes from Doru Panaitescu regarding the new Master Degree in Online Marketing promoted by the Academy of Economic Studies. As we speak, this is the only program that combines modules about online advertising, research, direct and strategic marketing.
This is also a great news for the local online industry and all the specialized companies in the market – finally you can send you employees do some heavy studying and hopefully the level of online marketing will be another one in a few years.

LATER EDIT: Also to blog about this, Gabriel Boaca, a future local guru in online marketing.

ARBOmedia losing blood

The first two people I met from ARBOmedia were Magda and Laurentiu. They seemed quite positive to me in a discussion that I wanted to drive them crazy :) but they had answers for every question.

Last year the ARBO online golden team was as its best: with Calin Rotarus managing the online sales and Doru Panaitescu executing clearly every campaign. Things started to chill last autumn. First, Calin took charge of all ARBO sales so there was one shortage in the online department by the end of the year. Surprisingly for everybody we found that beginning with the 1st of January 2007, Doru Panaitescu left ARBO and entered another interactive quest. Next on the list was Laurentiu so the core team was loosing member by member. The ARBO online team had a solid core at some time but the decisions made by some people confused the term “management” with “leadership” so that chemistry kicked in big time.

I remember that one time I had the chance to see what Magda was doing over there so I was really impressed. I told one of our investors that if we wanted to start an online sales agency, Magda would be the first person to recruit (first of all because of her long Yahoo Messenger list full of site owners :) ) and I considered her to be one of the key members in the ARBOmedia online team. At some moment this year she was promoted but I guess that her heart had other plans :)

A few moments ago Magda announced us (e-mail) that she’s leaving ARBO beginning with the 1st of July. I told to myself that the day Magda will leave ARBO, the ship will sink so now It’s a good time to panic. Rumors say that the figures produced by the ARBOonline in the last months don’t look very good, many of the publishers are not happy with the sales and the competition is tougher on a fragmented market (last year in june there were only 2 important players in the market, now there are 4).

In the end, the only thing I can say is that everybody seems to love football :)

Emotional Intelligence

In a few moments on the national Radio, I’ll be speaking about the Emotional Intelligence (EQ)…

The partnership with Birmingham, Alabama-based CNHI is the latest step in a roughly year-old strategy at Monster to team up with local media. Its previous partnerships comprise some 200 newspapers and eight television stations.

Un porche?

Un porche est une pièce ou galerie se trouvant devant l’entrée d’un édifice, formant avant-corps bas, placé devant la façade du bâtiment qu’il commande, il est souvent hors œuvre.

Wikipedia

This explanation above is only for 5 readers of my blog – I hope is useful :)

This weekend we visited Angajatori de Top – as we were very curious about their strategy and positioning (their event took place in the last days of the Easter holiday).

Since the competition on this market is hard, we had our people at Sala Palatului – a small team counting visitors and a bigger team gathering on-site information. I’m happy to say that we received a full report and some of our predictions turned out to be true.

First of all, trafic.ro is providing us precious info about the online visitors of the official website:
- 7.303 on Friday
- 3.780 on Saturday
Total 11.083 online visitors

Our people brought us extra information. The event didn’t have a proper visitors count (the officials counted the distributed catalogues but there were visitors taking more than 1 piece or no catalogue at all). This is were we stepped in and had our own count:
- 2.707 on Friday (rush hour 13:00-14:00)
- 5.042 on Saturday (rush hours 12:00-15:00)
Total: 7.749 people

I guess 7.749 is a very good number for a holiday weekend. You can notice that the online figures are quite the opposite but that’s another story. The good number on Saturday is due to the good TV coverage they had on Friday.

Of course, there are other stories to tell but since I’m an egoist :) , I’ll keep them to myself.

TCB – Taking Care of Business

In Romanian TCB actually stands for “Targul de Cariere Bucuresti” (“Bucharest Career Fair”).
The full story is here…

TCB has Premium Interactive Intelligence

We joined forces with Netbridge Development and MyJob in order to create one of the smartest concepts in the market – really client and user oriented, both online and offline and 100% Interactive.

The press release (in romanian) here:

Bucuresti, 20 martie 2007 / Netbridge Development /

MyJob.ro.

1.250.000 EUR

We conducted a study in order to find out the figures for the Romanian career events market.
Numbers: 600.000 EUR in 2006, more than 1.250.000 EUR in 2007.

The research was secret a few days ago but we decided to let it out: the press release here…

TCB – Targul de Cariere Bucuresti | Bucharest Career Fair – the place to be

Our creative intelligence was at its best in the last weeks so we managed to create one of the most attractive concepts in the market.
We had to wait for the competition and gather all the vital information from the competitive environment and during all this time we had to think out of the box.

One crucial thing in Bucharest is to find a big place for a career fair. This place also has to be very accessible (preferably in the middle of the city) and to have a strong brand.
This is why it’s very hard to find such a building in the center of the city. While our competition was running from one place to another, we took our time to prepare the concept.

Our first thought: “why do it in a building?” – so we focused on one of the main squares in Bucharest (Piata Revolutiei) and we decided to place it there. This is how we managed to have a 1700 sq m area for the event – in this zone we’ll built a pavilion: very modern, very good looking, brought from Germany.

Another important thing is that we could easily place our event in time as we didn’t depend on other events in the same place. So we chose the last week in April because we wanted to have a distance from the Easter holiday and the Labor Day and the student exam session.

“Piata Revolutiei” gave us the chance to brand something cool. The word “Revolution” implies “Evolution” and we believe that the fair will be a place for career evolutions.

Very interesting will also be the Career Cafe – a place where you can come for a coffee with actual managers or counselors and talk about career opportunities.

As I know that my blog is read by the competition, this is where I’ll stop although I have to thank them: because of you guys we had to work twice as hard and think twice as fast so this event will be great because of you also.

Later update: The press release here.

Magda Zander – interview on JOBfest.ro

You can read it all here.

Adevarul writes about JOBfest ENO

You can read the article here – you’ll notice the print screen and in the middle of the page is Dan Petre (btw, he started his first blog here)

JOBfest ENO in Cotidianul.

You can read the article here. One week from now, we’ll have another online event: JOB-Studenti.ro will celebrate 2 years of existence as leader of its niche.
Meanwhile, you can read an exclusive interview with Dan PETRE – 10 tips for a career in Advertising.

Let’s try a new concept…

JOBfest ENO – National Online Event – this is the new product we launched today, after the classical JOBfest fair that took place last week. The event will end on the 21st of January 2007 and during this time we’ll try to provide interviews, articles and online counseling for the young professionals.
As we speak, 50 companies recruit via JOBfest ENO. I’ve also seen the first in-house statistics and it seems that the most wanted employers are ORACLE, BRD-GSG, ACCENTURE and HP.

JOBfest – PR overview

Very busy week as I had to take care of the PR for JOBfest. It was not easy – we identified a negative campaign started from another area and we had to counterbalance the effects. I’m sure that the company who started this will not get the award for “best practice” and in some countries what they did is considered illegal (I’m happy Romanian will join the EU in january).
So… this week was about press releases, interviews and smiling (the smiling was the easiest part as I’m a happy face most of the time). On Monday we had Evenimentul Zilei writing about us (thanks to Felicia Niculae – she really did a very good coverage during the week also, as she is doing a very good job with the “Career section” in the newspaper). I also noticed that “Adevarul” reported every time we had something to say.

Monday and Tuesday meant also two press releases and on Wednesday morning we had a very good radio coverage: KISS FM (who was also the official partner), Radio21 (interview and news), Radio Romania, Radio Bucharest, BBC (very good coverage), MIX FM & Student Fm. I also got a report that we made the news on Infopro, RadioTOTAL, NationalFM and probably many small stations.

Now, probably the most important for the companies we had there, was the TV coverage. First day we had only National TV but on Thursday we were visited by TVR (the Romanian National Television)/ TVRi, PROTV and Antena1. Also, a SensoTV team was there for a larger report (they also had a workshop during the event). On Friday we had PrimaTV and I hope I mentioned everyone. Very happy about the TV coverage was the Hewlett-Packard team – they plan to hire more than 400 specialists next year, so they had something to say. Also ACCENTURE, ORACLE, DACIA, BUTANGAS, LYNGSOE SYSTEMS, GAMELOFT and BRD had PR people talking on TV.

The printed press coverage was quite ok (long list of publications, i’ll get the monitoring report next week) and besides the news articles, I have to tanks our partners at Business Adviser, Business Point, PC World, COMPUTERWORLD, NETWORKWORLD, Ziua, Gazeta, SCJ, StudentMax and AutoExpert.

Very special thanks to Ciprian Macesaru at SAPTE SERI – for the second time partners at JOBfest.

Last but not least, we had the Internet. I belive that many people had no trouble to find us online – UTV helped us (U online – thanks Victor) but also BestJOBS (thanks to Calin Fusu for the workshop and to Marian Pop for the online help). I won’t forget Cristi Lucan (academiadeafaceri.ro was a good partner), Cezar Ioan, Andrei Crivat, Victor Glijin (RegieLive.ro), Adrian Baston (very operative), Toni Budici, Mihai Cana, Mihaela Hartescu (great job at ASPSE) and Gheorghe Bucluc (OSE).

If you received any message from JOBfest this week, it means I did my job. If not, you probably weren’t on the target. :)

Calin Fusu at JOBfest

Latest news via JOBfest blog: Calin Fusu will host a workshop on the 16th of November on how to recruit online and how to do recruiting business online. I’ll be there because I want to ask him if BestJobs made the million $$$ this year…

JOBfest – career event for the young urban professionals

logo+jobfest.jpg

This morning I was on fire (and a pain for the guys I work with) because we started the promo campaign for JOBfest 2006. First step is to target the companies that need young human resources and we have some special treats for them in order to convince their management that we are the best around.
Must know – this is the first career event that uses a demographical study made by the Belgian company Insites on our websites. We gathered interesting facts about the young urban professionals (personal income, education, habits). We are sharing this data with our partners and we hope to achieve positive results.
The first big names to confirm their presence at JOBfest are MICHELIN, GENPACT, ACCENTURE, HILTON, GAMELOFT, ADECCO, CVO, IPSOS, LOYALIA, ALSTOM… and there are more to come.
